Zeros of holomorphic functions are not isolated
Builds on Holomorphic function of several variablesHartogs's extension theorem
Statement
Let , let be an open set, and let be a holomorphic function on . If and , then every neighbourhood of contains a point with .
Remarks
Suppose instead that is the only zero of in a small open ball around . Then is holomorphic on , which is connected. By Hartogs's extension theorem with , it extends to a holomorphic function on . Then on , hence at by continuity, which contradicts .
Example: vanishes at the origin, and its zeros near the origin form the two complex lines and .
The hypothesis is necessary: on has the isolated zero .

For a student
The zero set of a holomorphic function that is not identically zero is an analytic hypersurface, of complex dimension at each of its points. This proposition is the first step toward that fact. Divisors in several variables are made of hypersurfaces instead.
