Orthonormal family

Builds on Orthogonal vectors

Definition

Let VV be an inner product space over ℝ\R or ℂ\C, and let II be a set. A family (ei)i∈I(e_i)_{i \in I} of vectors of VV is orthonormal when, for all i,j∈Ii, j \in I, ⟨ei,ej⟩=δij,\langle e_i, e_j \rangle = \delta_{ij}, where δij=1\delta_{ij} = 1 if i=ji = j and δij=0\delta_{ij} = 0 if i≠ji \ne j.

Remarks

So each eie_i has norm 11, and eie_i and eje_j are orthogonal for i≠ji \ne j. The standard basis of ℝn\R^n is orthonormal for the dot product. The functions t↦e2πiktt \mapsto e^{2\pi i k t}, k∈ℤk \in \Z, are orthonormal for ⟨f,g⟩=∫01fgˉ dt\langle f, g \rangle = \int_0^1 f \bar g\, dt.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
