Product formula for the order of HK
Builds on Product of two subgroupsIntersection of subgroups is a subgroupCosets have the same cardinality as the subgroup
Statement
Let be a group and let and be finite subgroups of . Then the product has exactly elements.
Remarks
The formula holds also when is not a subgroup. The proof counts the pairs : two pairs and give the same product exactly when and for some . For example, two distinct subgroups of order in meet in , and their product has elements.
