Vectors are perpendicular if and only if their dot product is zero
Builds on Angle between two vectorsGeometric formula for the dot product
Statement
Let be a positive integer, and let and be nonzero vectors in , with dot product . Let be the angle between and . Then if and only if .
Remarks
The proof uses the geometric formula for the dot product: with and , and for only when . Two vectors and with are called orthogonal. With this word, the zero vector is orthogonal to each vector. In Mathlib the angle with the zero vector is , so the equivalence holds there for all vectors.
