Linear and multilinear algebra; matrix theory Definition
Linear equation
Definition
Let be a field and let be an integer. A linear equation over in the unknowns is an equation of the form where the coefficients are elements of . The constant term is also an element of the field. A solution of the equation is a tuple such that .
Remarks
The equation over is linear, and is a solution. The equation is not linear, because it has a product of two unknowns. Over with , the solutions of a linear equation with form a line in the plane.
