Cramer's rule
Builds on DeterminantSystem of linear equations
Statement
Let be a field, let be an matrix over with , and let . For , let be the matrix that results when column of is replaced by . Then the linear system has exactly one solution , and
Remarks
For , the system , has the solution and . The rule follows from the formula for the inverse with the adjugate. It needs determinants, so it is slow for large compared with Gaussian elimination.
