Definition

Let KK be a commutative ring, let AA be an m×nm \times n matrix over KK, and let 1≤k≤min⁡(m,n)1 \le k \le \min(m, n). A minor of order kk of AA is the determinant of a k×kk \times k submatrix of AA. Such a submatrix consists of the entries in kk chosen rows and kk chosen columns of AA. For an n×nn \times n matrix AA, delete row ii and column jj to get an (n−1)×(n−1)(n-1) \times (n-1) matrix. The minor MijM_{ij} is the determinant of this matrix.

Remarks

The minors MijM_{ij} are called first minors. Over a field, the rank of AA is the largest kk such that AA has a nonzero minor of order kk. The minors with the same chosen rows and columns are principal minors.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
