Product topology on an arbitrary product
Definition
Let be a family of topological spaces, indexed by any set , and let be the Cartesian product, with projections . The product topology on is the topology generated by the subbasis
Remarks
A basis consists of the sets , where each is open in and for all but finitely many . For two factors, this is the product topology of . It is the coarsest topology on for which each projection is continuous. A sequence converges in if and only if each of its coordinates converges. The box topology is finer and lacks this property.
