Projections are continuous
Builds on Product topologyContinuous map of topological spacesOpen map
Statement
Let and be topological spaces and give the product topology. Then the projections , , and , , are continuous.
Remarks
Proof: for open in , we have , which is a basic open set. The proof for is the same. The projections are also open maps, but in general they are not closed maps. The product topology is the coarsest topology on that makes both projections continuous.
