Counterexample

Let f(x)=e−1/xf(x) = e^{-1/x} for x>0x > 0 and f(x)=0f(x) = 0 for x≤0x \le 0. Then ff is smooth on ℝ\mathbb{R}, and f(n)(0)=0f^{(n)}(0) = 0 for all nn. So its Taylor series at 00 is the zero series. But f(x)>0f(x) > 0 for x>0x > 0, so ff is not analytic at 00.

Remarks

For x>0x > 0, each derivative has the form pn(1/x)e−1/xp_n(1/x) e^{-1/x} for a polynomial pnp_n. It tends to 00 as x→0+x \to 0^+, because e−1/xe^{-1/x} decays faster than any power of xx. Such functions give smooth bump functions and smooth partitions of unity. Mathlib defines this function as expNegInvGlue.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • edge refutes or not_instance_of out (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
