Higher derivative

Builds on Derivative function

Definition

Let II be an open interval and let f ⁣:I→ℝf \colon I \to \mathbb{R}. Let f(0)=ff^{(0)} = f. If f(n)f^{(n)} is defined and differentiable on II, let f(n+1)=(f(n))′f^{(n+1)} = (f^{(n)})', its derivative function. The function f(n)f^{(n)} is the nn-th derivative of ff, and ff is nn times differentiable when it exists.

Remarks

The second derivative is f′′=f(2)f'' = f^{(2)}. For example, the nn-th derivative of xnx^n is the constant n!n!. Mathlib defines iteratedDeriv n f.

Reading path

To understand this page from the ground up, read these 6 pages in order. The foundations come first.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
