Potential of a measure

Summary

The potential of a measure μ\mu with respect to a kernel kk is the function x↦∫k(x,y) dμ(y)x \mapsto \int k(x, y) \, d\mu(y). It describes the field of a distribution of mass or charge μ\mu. Here k(x,y)k(x, y) is the effect at xx of a unit mass at yy. With the Newtonian kernel one gets the Newtonian potential, with the logarithmic kernel the logarithmic potential, and with ∣x−y∣α−n\abs{x - y}^{\alpha - n} the Riesz potentials. Energy, capacity, equilibrium measures and balayage are all defined through potentials of measures.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
