Definition

Let XX be a topological space and let S⊆XS \subseteq X. The interior of SS is the union of all open sets UU of XX with U⊆SU \subseteq S. It is written int⁡S\operatorname{int} S or S∘S^\circ. A point of int⁡S\operatorname{int} S is an interior point of SS.

Remarks

A point xx is an interior point of SS if and only if there is an open set UU with x∈U⊆Sx \in U \subseteq S. In a metric space, xx is an interior point of SS if and only if B(x,ε)⊆SB(x, \varepsilon) \subseteq S for some ε>0\varepsilon > 0. In ℝ\mathbb{R}, the interior of [0,1][0, 1] is (0,1)(0, 1), and the interior of ℚ\mathbb{Q} is ∅\emptyset.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
