A set is closed iff it equals its closure
Builds on Closure is the smallest closed superset
Statement
Let be a topological space and let . Then is closed in if and only if .
Remarks
Proof: if is closed, then by closure is the smallest closed superset, and always holds. If , then is closed because the closure is closed. The dual statement is: is open if and only if .
