Group theory and generalizations Proposition

Nilpotent groups are solvable

Builds on Nilpotent groupSolvable group

Statement

Let GG be a nilpotent group. Then GG is solvable.

Remarks

A central series {e}=N0⊆⋯⊆Nn=G\{e\} = N_0 \subseteq \cdots \subseteq N_n = G is a subnormal series, and each factor Ni+1/NiN_{i+1}/N_i is central in G/NiG/N_i, so it is abelian. The converse is false: S3S_3 is solvable, but it is not nilpotent. So there are strict inclusions: abelian groups, then nilpotent groups, then solvable groups.
