Real functions Proposition

Integral of sine

Builds on Sine and cosineDerivative of cosineSecond fundamental theorem of calculus

Statement

For all real numbers aa and bb, ∫absin⁡x dx=cos⁡a−cos⁡b.\int_a^b \sin x \, dx = \cos a - \cos b.

Remarks

The derivative of cosine is −sin⁡-\sin, so −cos⁡-\cos is an antiderivative of sin⁡\sin. For example, ∫0πsin⁡x dx=2\int_0^\pi \sin x \, dx = 2. Mathlib states it as integral_sin.
