Partition of an interval
Definition
Let be real numbers. A partition of is a finite sequence of real numbers with The intervals for are the subintervals of .
Remarks
Partitions are the basis of Darboux sums and Riemann sums. A refinement of adds more points. The mesh of is the length of its longest subinterval. A tagged partition also chooses a point in each subinterval .
