Conjugate transpose

Builds on Transpose

Definition

Let A=(aij)A = (a_{ij}) be an m×nm \times n matrix with complex entries. The conjugate transpose of AA is the n×mn \times m matrix A∗A^* with entries (A∗)ij=aji‾(A^*)_{ij} = \overline{a_{ji}} for 1≤i≤n1 \le i \le n and 1≤j≤m1 \le j \le m, where z‾\overline{z} is the complex conjugate of zz.

Remarks

Other notations are AHA^H and A†A^\dagger. For a real matrix, the conjugate transpose is the transpose. The rules (A∗)∗=A(A^*)^* = A and (AB)∗=B∗A∗(AB)^* = B^* A^* hold. For the standard inner product on ℂn\C^n, ⟨Ax,y⟩=⟨x,A∗y⟩\langle Ax, y \rangle = \langle x, A^* y \rangle.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
