Definition
Let be a set. A preorder on is a binary relation on that is reflexive and transitive. For all :
- ;
- and imply .
Remarks
Divisibility on is a preorder. It is not antisymmetric, because and . An antisymmetric preorder is a partial order. For a preorder, and together define an equivalence relation. The preorder gives a partial order on the quotient set.
