One-sided limit
Builds on Limit of a function
Definition
Let , let , and let be a limit point of . A real number is the right limit of at if the following holds. For each there is with for all with . The notation is . The left limit is defined in the same way, with .
Remarks
The right limit is the limit of the restriction of to . If is a limit point of points on both sides, then if and only if both one-sided limits exist and equal . For the sign function at , the right limit is and the left limit is .
