Differentiable on an open set
Definition
Let be an open set and let . The function is differentiable on when it is differentiable at each point . Then the derivative of is the map , , where is the space of linear maps from to .
Remarks
The function is continuously differentiable, or of class , on when it is differentiable on and is continuous. Here carries the topology of matrices. For a set that is not open, one uses derivatives within instead. On an open set the two notions agree. Each polynomial map is differentiable on .
